Karan Johar has come out in support of Alia Bhatt and Sharvari’s latest release, Alpha. The YRF Spy Universe film hit theatres on Friday, July 3 and has since sparked conversations online. Known for sharing his views on films he enjoys, the filmmaker once again took to social media to praise the action thriller while also calling out the negativity surrounding its release.

Taking to Instagram Stories, KJo applauded Alpha’s opening-day performance and urged audiences to celebrate cinema instead of engaging in online criticism.

His post read, “When footfalls are a challenge ALPHA takes a solid start! It emphasises many things … the audience is way above online negativity and they are the true warriors … the stardom and theatrical pull and unquestionable talent of Alia Bhatt and the impact of a big screen spectacle is undebatable and that YRF has a continued franchise and an endeavour to create the theatrical tentpole experiences that need our applause and not any toxicity! So please relax and celebrate that cinemas are breathing!!! Go watch ALPHA and stop doom scrolling!! (sic)”

Meanwhile, Alpha opened to a decent response at the box office, collecting Rs 9.25 crore nett in India on its first day. The film’s domestic gross stood at approximately Rs 10.80 crore, while it is estimated to have earned around Rs 5 crore overseas, taking its worldwide opening-day gross to approximately Rs 15.80 crore. The film recorded an overall Hindi occupancy of 20.40% on Friday, with night shows registering the highest occupancy at 34%.

    Alia Bhatt

Directed by Shiv Rawail, Alpha stars Alia Bhatt, Sharvari, Bobby Deol and Anil Kapoor, with a special cameo by Hrithik Roshan. The film marks a significant milestone for the YRF Spy Universe as its first female-led action spectacle.
