Keanu Reeves’ Iconic Thriller Sequel Gets Official Release Window

Keanu Reeves’ cult classic film Point Break’s sequel series officially gets a new release window.

Point Break follows FBI agent Johnny Utah as he goes undercover to track down those responsible for a series of strange heists in Southern California. His investigation leads him into the local surf scene, where he suspects a group of surfers may be behind the crimes. Bodhi is the leader of the group, driven by the rush of surfing and robbery. As Utah digs deeper into their world, he meets Tyler (Lori Petty), a surfer closely tied to the group. Their relationship begins to blur the lines between his assignment and his personal life, forcing him to question where his loyalties lie.

AMC Global Media is expanding its lineup with a mix of original series, franchise sequels, and literary adaptations. Among the most notable announcements is a TV sequel series of the same name as the 1991 action hit Point Break. The film originally starred Keanu Reeves as Johnny Utah and Patrick Swayze as Bodhi.

Dave Kalstein is attached to write and executive produce the project. Scripts for the first season are already in development, with production expected to begin in Australia later this year. AMC is aiming for a 2027 premiere, giving the series a clear runway as one of the company’s big upcoming titles.

The new series will pick up 25 years after the events of the film. Rather than revisiting the original characters directly, the story centers on a new heist team. The new crew has connections to the infamous Ex-Presidents gang, continuing the legacy of action-packed robberies that defined the original Point Break.

Point Break has a strong creative team. Shane Black, known for his work on Lethal Weapon, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, and Iron Man 2, is set to direct and executive produce. Craig Silverstein will serve as creator and showrunner. He has worked on projects such as Turn: Washington’s Spies, Pantheon, and Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Other executive producers include Greg Nicotero, a longtime collaborator of AMC’s The Walking Dead franchise, alongside Brian Witten.

AMC’s new lineup reveals a broader strategy to grow its reach across both traditional TV and streaming platforms, including AMC+, Shudder, and Acorn TV. By combining recognizable brands like Point Break with new adaptations, the company will likely attract both longtime fans and new audiences.

There is currently no official release date for Point Break at the time of this article’s publication. However, AMC is aiming for a 2027 release.
