A new Marvel project bringing back three major figures is confirmed to release this September. There are different kinds of anti-heroes in the Marvel Universe: morally gray vigilantes, benevolent heroes with brutally anti-heroic methods, and even supervillains who often do the right thing for all the wrong reasons. The Punisher is the ultimate example of the first type, driven by a black-and-white code of permanent retribution. Heroes like Wolverine represent the anti-heroic hero, with a savage approach to superheroics. The latter is embodied by Doctor Doom, who dreams of a utopian world built with an iron fist.
Another example of a Wolverine-like anti-heroic hero is Namor, whose isolationist loyalty to Atlantis often makes him an unpredictable wildcard. One day, Namor casually floods surface cities or teams up with cosmic tyrants to guarantee the survival of his kingdom. The next, he’s fighting Nazis with Captain America and the Invaders or helping avoid global catastrophes with the Fantastic Four. In the middle between Namor and Doctor Doom, Black Panther drifts away from his traditional roots as a pure-hearted Avenger to explore stints as a vigilante and later as the Intergalactic Emperor of Wakanda, which leads him to make difficult compromises.
Doctor Doom, Namor, and Doctor Doom will all play a key role in Avengers: Doomsday this December. Three months before that, all three Marvel icons will co-star in Black Panther/Namor: Doomed #1.
Black Panther And Namor Reunite To Fight Doctor Doom’s Demons
Black Panther/Namor: Doomed #1; Written By Ethan S. Parker & Griffin Sheridan; Art By Stefano Nesi
Following the events of One World Under Doom and the explosive beginning of Armageddon, Wakanda and Atlantis are attacked by demons, leading their monarchs to team up. As officially announced by Marvel, Black Panther and Namor will co-star in Black Panther/Namor: Doomed this September, joining forces against Doctor Doom’s forces from hell. Black Panther: Intergalactic artist Stefano Nesi and the Marvel Zombies: Red Band duo Ethan S. Parker and Griffin Sheridan are set to bring this team-up to life in an unmissable chapter of Marvel’s Armageddon event.
At this point in the timeline, Red Hulk has successfully taken over Latveria, now New America, and destabilized Earth-616’s geopolitics. The Avengers have activated their protocols, though Steve Rogers is down, and major characters like Spider-Man and Reed Richards have been teased to be knocked out of the fight soon. Since Armageddon is a truly global crossover event, it doesn’t take long for the kingdoms of Wakanda and Atlantis to feel the ripples of Thaddeus Ross’ conquest. What nobody could have predicted is Doctor Doom’s direct influence, let alone an attack from hell.
Marvel’s Armageddon Might Bring Back The Illuminati
A Political Apocalypse Might Require A Group Of Monarchs And Masterminds
A global crisis the magnitude of Armageddon can’t be solved by traditional superhero brawling. It demands the intellect of Marvel’s top minds, as well as the resources of the world’s most powerful heads of state, and perhaps the input of elite magicians. Currently, the original Illuminati members are scattered. Tony Stark is already on the front lines alongside the Avengers, while Charles Xavier is unreachable off-world and Doctor Strange is still busy protecting Asgard. Black Bolt is focused on the new Galactic Union, but he might gain interest in defending the Earth, and Beast could depart his X-Men duties temporarily to help the Avengers.
We’ve All Been Mispronouncing Black Panther’s Name for Decades, Even In the MCU
Comic book readers and Marvel Cinematic Universe viewers have been misprouncing Black Panther’s name for years, and it’s time to finally come correct,
Despite these circumstances, Black Panther and Namor put aside decades of bitter blood feuds to face an unprecedented supernatural siege. While the Avengers struggle to contain Red Hulk, Wakanda and Atlantis prepare to face a demonic invasion, triggered by none other than the man who kicked off the events of Armageddon in the first place, and the leader of the Illuminati’s dark counterparts, the Cabal. After Doomed, Black Panther and Namor might join Tony Stark and the Avengers in their war against Red Hulk, and Hank McCoy might not be far behind.
