Netflix‘s new 3-part crime thriller series is an easy one-night binge this weekend following its world premiere on Thursday, June 4, 2026. Similar to the recent Netflix hit series Legends, this gripping new crime drama is based on real events and is set in England with a mostly British cast. Due to its compelling story and its short length, we’ve already named it one of the best shows to watch on Netflix this week.
Set in 1992, this 3-part limited series follows the true crime story of Rachel Nickell, who was murdered on Wimbledon Common in front of her young son, Alex, who was just weeks from turning three years old. As the only witness to Rachel’s horrific death, Alex is tasked with trying to assists law enforcement and his devastated father, André, to bring his mom’s killer to justice despite his young age. With such a naturally intriguing premise, The Witness is a must-watch new show on Netflix this weekend that is perfect for a quick one-night binge.
The Witness Just Arrived On Netflix – What It’s About
As of Thursday, June 4, 2026, all three episodes of The Witness are now available to stream exclusively on Netflix for the very first time. Consisting of just three episodes, each between 47 and 37 minutes each, the entire miniseries has a total runtime of roughly 2 and a half hours, making it essentially the length of a long movie. Although its subject matter can get quite dark, its brief runtime makes it the best new show to binge on Netflix in just one sitting this weekend.
Following the aforementioned events and Rachel’s death, a media frenzy erupts that immediately affects both Alex and André as police identify their first key suspect. A determined detective inspector sets up an undercover operation to try and catch the alleged killer in the act, only for another murder to make headlines and completely derail the police’s efforts and throw a wrench in the entire investigation. Years pass before the truth comes to light about Rachel’s murder and the series examines whether Alex and André ever find peace after such an unimaginable tragedy.
While the series undoubtedly follows the increasingly desperate police investigation in the hours, weeks, and even years after Rachel’s murder, The Witness interestingly maintains its focus on the emotional turmoil of André and his traumatized son. As much as the show is about a puzzling crime and a senseless act of violence, it also portrays the tender focus on maintaining young Alex’s sense of stability, as much as humanly possible, and both he and his father are forced to process immense grief.
Binge All 3 Episodes Of The Witness In Just One Night
While not necessarily a casual watch, The Witness is a rewarding and well-crafted series that is well worth the binge on Netflix this weekend. The series features a strong cast, led by Jordan Bolger (The Book of Boba Fett) as André, Neil Maskell (Hijack) as DI Keith Pedder, Mark Stanley (Adolescence) as DS Ivan Agnew, and Max Fincham (The Alienist) as teenage Alex. The series has not received an official Rotten Tomatoes score at the time of writing, but one positive review by Heaven of Horror gives it 3/5 stars.
Netflix’s New 3-Part True Crime Series Is Already One Of Its Best To Binge
Netflix’s new 3-part true crime series is already one of its best new shows to binge-watch just hours after its worldwide premiere on June 3, 2026.
One of the most unique qualities about The Witness is that a companion documentary film, The Murder of Rachel Nickell, was just released on Netflix on the exact same day, allowing viewers to get the complete factual account of the events before (or after) diving into the dramatized version. While parts of The Witness are slightly dramatized, The Murder of Rachel Nickell, which runs for just 1 hour and 35 minutes, offers the true unadulterated story. Since both have the direct involvement of the real-life Alex and André, they are great choices to binge this weekend on Netflix, especially for true crime fans.
