Netflix’s new 6-part psychological thriller runs under five hours and delivers a complete mystery, making it officially built for a one-night binge. The Trap, or Die Falle, is Netflix’s newest must-binge crime thriller series this week that has already become one of its biggest streaming hits right now. The series was developed by the creators of Dear Child, another 6-part crime thriller that became a massive success on Netflix in 2023, earning 52.5 million views and 253 million hours viewed in the second half of 2023 and a perfect 100% Rotten Tomatoes score. The Trap Has Already Surged To Netflix’s #4 Global Spot
The Trap is off to a fantastic start as one of Netflix’s most popular new series this week, currently nearly the streamer’s Top 3 most-watched shows worldwide. The Trap even features several of the key actors in Dear Child, including Naila Schuberth and Hans Löw. The series is based on the 2015 bestselling German novel of the same name written by Melanie Raabe, and was adapted for streaming by Isabel Kleefeld, who also directed three episodes of Dear Child. The Trap immediately gives similar dark psychological thriller tones to another enormous Netflix streaming hit, The Beast in Me, based on its premise alone. The series begins with protagonist Lisa Konrad, played by Friederike Becht, a reclusive author who is still traumatized by witnessing her sister’s murder years ago. One day, Lisa sees the man she believes killed her sister on television, a renowned political journalist named Robert Lenzen. Lisa decides to write a new book and ask him for an interview, setting a trap for Robert in her home to collect his DNA and ideally elicit a confession.
Lisa is convinced that Robert is her sister’s killer because he was seen leaving the scene of the crime, in which her sister was stabbed to death in her apartment, but he was able to get his way out of it due to Lisa’s blurry memory of that night. Lisa’s life implodes after her sister’s death, not only being forced to grieve but also suffering from survivor’s guilt and paranoia. This led her to become a reclusive author who hasn’t stepped outside for years. That is, until she spots Robert on television and begins her master plan to discover the truth.
The Trap Is Built To Be An Easy One-Night Netflix Binge
With its six short episodes, each between 43 and 52 minutes, and a total runtime of 4 hours and 51 minutes, The Trap is undoubtedly one of Netflix’s easier new shows to binge in just one night this week. While it may not live up to the hype of Dear Child, which was one of Netflix’s most-watched series of 2023, it certainly has the intrigue and star power behind it to become a massive worldwide success.
