Hogwarts Legacy came out in 2023, and we haven’t even heard an official sequel announcement yet. Although it’s been leaked to be in the works, WB hasn’t held a proper reveal event yet, which fans are expecting before the launch of the upcoming HBO Harry Potter TV series.
As a result, fans have been speculating as to what the sequel could hold and when it’ll take place. Folks are also worried about potential live-service elements intruding on the game, which could directly conflict with the single-player focus of the original game that many people fell in love with.
On X, fans are united over the leaks about Hogwarts Legacy 2. Seeing them all together is astounding, and it could be coming sooner than we think.
Numerous leaks have popped up for Hogwarts Legacy 2 in recent months, and the PotterWorldwide account on X has rounded all of them up, including recent leaks. Here is everything we know about Hogwarts Legacy 2 so far, based on leaks (along with a grain of salt):
- Online or live-service elements are still potentially in the works.
- We could see the release in 2027, after a reveal.
- Warner Bros is evidently psyched for this sequel, given the success of the original.
- The Harry Potter HBO series could connect to the sequel.
- Given that the DLC for Hogwarts Legacy 1 was canceled, more effort has been put into the sequel.
Fans are both united in loving the info so far, and being against live-service elements. As one fan puts it: “I feel like single player is the best bet, I really enjoyed the first. I think if they want to make something online and bigger they should make a separate game from Hogwarts Legacy.”
Another writes: “Love Hogwarts Legacy. Don’t know that I love HL2 being set in the Harry Potter era. If there’s one thing HL1 proved, it’s that you can make amazing, original stories in this world in any era.”
Others are hopeful that it will improve upon the original, specifically the lack of feeling like you were a student: “What they need to do is give us options to play different schools across the universe. Have them all linked somehow. Each quarter you go to a different school to figure out the story or it’s the tri wizard cup and they’re placed in different schools. So much more they can do.”
A 2027 release without any live-service elements would be ideal. With multiplayer, it’s always tricky, as side modes take up a lot of development time, and incorporating them directly into the campaign could be polarizing. The team should follow up on the success of the original with something similar to a baseline, but with a broader scope and more polish.
As long as the teams shore up some things like combat, the sequel to Hogwarts Legacy could end up being even bigger than the original. Especially if the show takes off before it launches.
