Bad news for subscribers of Nintendo Switch Online. It looks like all tiers of NSO subscriptions will be increasing next month, after the company just recently announced the price of a Switch 2 is going up in September. The full scope of these changes isn’t quite known yet, but it’ll likely impact all regions before the year’s end.

The announcement was made via the official X account for Nintendo, with more details shared over on Nintendo.com. This includes new listed prices for all tiers on NSO. The new plans will begin on July 1, 2026, offering members about a week to prepare for the changes. You can read the post below:

The catch, at least for now, is that the NSO price increase has only been confirmed through Nintendo’s Japanese storefront. Currently, there’s been no mention of it by Nintendo of America, so if you’re in the U.S., this doesn’t affect you yet. The caveat here is that if Nintendo Switch Online subscriptions go up in price in one country, they are almost definitely going up in other regions too.

For example, the Family Plan of NSO is currently 4,500 yen (or about $28 USD). Under the revised pricing, that same plan is now going to cost 5,800 yen (around $35 USD). Pending an official announcement from Nintendo of America, expect to see similar price changes to roll out in U.S. dollars soon enough, and this gives you an idea of what kind of hikes to expect. The full price changes can be seen in the image below:

It’s also worth noting that nothing else seems to be changing. There will still be regular drops of new games on Nintendo Switch Online, free trial offers, and limited-time bonuses. Basically, it looks like we’ll all be paying more money for the same service. Granted, this still makes NSO a much lower-priced subscription annually than PlayStation Plus or Xbox Game Pass, although its limited games library is ostensibly why NSO prices are lower.

Almost everything is more expensive these days, so it’s not wholly surprising that Nintendo Switch Online prices are going up. Still, it’s likely disappointing news for the millions of subscribers out there.
