Overmono, the Welsh electronic duo of brothers Tom and Ed Russell, have announced their second album, Pure Devotion. Due out August 7 on XL Recordings, the follow-up to their 2023 debut Good Lies features Ruthven, Kindora, Rock Floyd, and John Joseph Holt. Today, the duo released a lead single, “Lockup,” which retools Birmingham post-punk group Fast Relief’s “What A Waste” into a driving, four-on-the-floor club track. Give it a spin below.

In a press statement, Overmono said they wanted Pure Devotion to highlight the physicality of the studio process, and encompass the array of hands-on, delightfully kooky techniques they used to create the sounds across the album. “We ran tape over magnets, blew up some speakers, and finally utilized that dirt-cheap, overclocked FX unit we snaffled years ago in Bromley,” Overmono said. “We even oven-baked a cymbal covered in coffee grounds, crisps, and vinegar.”

Since the release of Good Lies, Overmono have stayed busy honing their live act, embarking on a world tour, recording a Boiler Room set in Manchester, and performing at Glastonbury Festival. In 2024, they released a remix of the Streets classic “Turn the Page” and collaborated with Fred Again.. and Lil Yachty for the single “Stayinit.”
