Director Robert Eggers has established himself as a man interested in unconventional horror stories, from his debut film The Witch to 2024’s Nosferatu. While we wait for further updates on his Labrynth sequel, his monster era continues with the new trailer for Werwulf, a period movie that promises a fresh look at the classic myth of the werewolf.
Werwulf is set in the 13th century, per Eggers’ firmly stated revulsion towards the idea of ever having to film a car or a cell phone. Leading the cast are Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Lily-Rose Depp, Ralph Ineson, and Willem Dafoe, who all happened to also appear in Nosferatu as well. This will actually be Dafoe’s fourth film with Eggers, as they also worked together on The Lighthouse and The Northman.
Check out the first trailer for Werwulf below. The film howls into theaters on December 25th, 2026. Also, take a look at the 4K Ultra HD extended cut of Nosferatu, now available on Amazon.
