On Wednesday, a man and a woman scaled to the very top of the Empire State Building, hoisted a flag paraphrasing Jimi Hendrix that read “When the power of love beats the love of power, the world knows peace,” and then proceeded to get engaged. The couple has now revealed themselves to be Russian rooftoopers Ivan Beerkus and Angela Nikolau, who previously starred in the 2024 Netflix documentary Skywalkers: A Love Story.

The couple previously earned notoriety for their death-defying climbs, sans ropes or harnesses, of Goldin Finance 117 in Tianjin and Merdeka 118 in Malaysia. The latter climb was the focus of Skywalkers: A Love Story, which premiered at Sundance in 2024 before its acquisition by Netflix.

Beerkus also presents himself as a DJ, with his Instagram documenting performances in unusual locations including the top of a windmill, a crane, and the US Bank Tower in Los Angeles.

Following Wednesday’s climb, Beerkus and Nikolau were taken into custody by the NYPD.
