Released back in 2024 and marking the first open-world Star Wars video game, Star Wars Outlaws may have underperformed when it came to sales expectations, but with mainly positive reviews from critics and the general audience alike, there is no denying that it is an action-adventure title you do not want to miss out on, especially if you are a fan of the Star Wars franchise as a whole.
Developed by Massive Entertainment and published by Ubisoft, Star Wars Outlaws is set during the events of 1980’s The Empire Strikes Back and 1983’s Return of the Jedi and follows the story of Kay Vess, a young scoundrel who must assemble her very own team in order to plan a heist and escape a crime syndicate she has found herself indebted to.
Originally released on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S in 2024, Star Wars Outlaws later launched on the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2025, and since then, many players have taken the opportunity to dive into the first ever open-world Star Wars game. However, a recent announcement may just increase that player base even more, as Star Wars Outlaws is now free to download for millions.
Just yesterday, the next batch of titles added to the PlayStation Plus library for May was announced and, as you can probably expect, Star Wars Outlaws was one of them. Arriving alongside seven other titles, Star Wars Outlaws has joined the PS Plus Extra and Premium library and is available to play for free on the PlayStation 5.
Experience the first-ever open world Star Wars game and explore distinct planets across the galaxy, both iconic and new. Risk it all as Kay Vess, an emerging scoundrel seeking freedom and the means to start a new life. Fight, steal and outwit your way through the galaxy’s crime syndicates as you join the galaxy’s most wanted. If you’re willing to take the risk, the galaxy is full of opportunity.
Here at Screen Rant, we awarded Star Wars Outlaws with an impressive 8/10, calling it “a stunning depiction of scum and villainy.” In his review, our very own Glenn Bunn said, “While Star Wars Outlaws does have its pacing issues and there are moments where it feels restrictive, for the most part, it is still an enjoyable open-world experience to dive into. It’s definitely one of the more in-depth insights into and excellent explorations of the scoundrel side. How Kay Vess’ story plays into the wider franchise is yet to be seen, but with some major revelations in the final part of the game, there are bound to be some exciting consequences going forward from this excellent first adventure.”
So, if you are interested in checking out Star Wars Outlaws and you just so happen to be a PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium member, make sure to take advantage of Sony’s latest free addition.
