There are loads of great things going for Steam, if you ignore the recent hardware price hikes that are destined to lock a lot of gamers out of ever being able to afford a Steam Machine. The discounts on games when the sales come around tend to be much better than on consoles. Also, many of the more interesting indie games usually land on Steam first. And of course, there’s always a new free game to play.

Yep, for whatever reason (maybe quality control), Steam tends to get a much greater number of free games than any other platform. I won’t lie to you and say that every single free game that releases on Steam is worth your time. However, there are genuine diamonds in the rough. With this in mind, let’s take a quick look at the eight latest free games to have been added to Steam. These are, if you so choose, yours to download and keep forever. No subscription required.

    With It We Leave

“You wake up as Christina Lyon, a prisoner and now the lone survivor of a horrifying creature’s rampage. To escape, you must find a way to manipulate this monster to clear pathways using whatever equipment you can find. As you explore, you may find this facility isn’t all it appears to be…”

If that synopsis has you intrigued, you can check out this curious horror adventure right now.

    Grid of Change

If you want something a little bit more laid back, Grid Of Change could be for you. This is a turn-based strategy board game where every move can change the entire match. Developer KimGoc Studio claims it’s “easy to learn but hard to master, it delivers fast, tense, and highly tactical mind games against your opponents.” You can check this one out here.

    Move, Move, Melon!!

As far as titles go, Move, Move, Melon!! pretty much sums this one up nicely. You play as a Hamster called Melon who must roll around on a tiny ball, Monkey Ball style, to churn the biggest ice cream scoop ever. It looks genuinely adorable, and definitely worth a look.

    Wrispell

A side-scrolling magical platformer in which players combine runes to make spells. This looks like a pretty simple game with some… interesting graphics. It’s also worth noting that the background music was generated using AI, which will understandably put a lot of players off completely. If you really want to, you can check it out here.

    Flesh Forest

“As a park ranger at Rockwell national park, as is well until hikers go missing and you are called in to locate them. Armed with only a rifle, with limited ammunition and health, try to survive the horrors of the forest in this first-person found footage, Action Horror Game.”

Lord knows we have enough first-person horror games on Steam, but Flesh Forest gets a pass because it’s completely free. Also, it has this really cool low-poly vibe that I dig. Be sure to give it a go.

    TBH: Task Bar Hero

In this cute pixel graphics idle RPG, you can play through a bite-sized fantasy adventure with tons of items, skills, and upgrades. And because it’s an idle RPG, the adventure keeps going when you’re away, making it perfect for playing at the office. Not that I condone that, of course, if my boss is reading this.
