The Lord of the Rings has entered a busy new era when it comes to upcoming releases for the franchise, for better or worse. While many fans of Tolkien’s iconic fantasy world are excited to venture into new corners of Middle-Earth with The Rings of Power, Andy Serkis’ The Hunt for Gollum, Stephen Colbert’s Shadow of the Past project, and the upcoming Warhorse RPG, others are a bit nervous about what’s to come.
With so many releases coming up, it’s easy to miss some of the more niche news announcements, especially in the gaming industry where Warhorse’s RPG has dominated the conversation as of late. However, there was recently an incredible new Lord of the Rings release featuring a brand-new retelling of The Hobbit, and as part of that new adventure, fans will also be able to check out The Hobbit Treasure Trove this coming August (via Gamers At Hart).
Magic: The Gathering is returning to Middle-earth with The Hobbit, a new crossover set inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien’s beloved novel. Building on the success of 2023’s The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth, the upcoming release shifts the spotlight to Bilbo Baggins’ unexpected adventure, bringing iconic characters such as Thorin Oakenshield, Gandalf, Smaug, and the Company’s journey.
While Wizards of the Coast has yet to reveal every card, the set is expected to blend iconic story moments, legendary creatures, and collectible treatments that celebrate one of fantasy’s most influential tales. Alongside the set, Gamegenic is launching a range of officially licensed accessories, including The Hobbit Treasure Trove, a premium storage solution designed for dedicated collectors and players.
Listed at $54.99 and available for pre-order now, it includes a one-row storage case featuring full-color licensed artwork on a Refractifyber exterior, a magnetic closure, soft microfiber interior, and enough room to hold multiple deck boxes, playmats, gaming accessories, or up to 550+ double-sleeved cards, making it an ideal collectible accessory for hardcore MTG and LOTR fans looking to protect and display their growing collection.
Magic: The Gathering’s The Hobbit series launches with pre-release events running from August 7–13, followed by an MTG Arena release on August 11 and a full worldwide tabletop launch on August 14, 2026. Unlike the previous The Lord of the Rings MTG release, Tales of Middle-earth, The Hobbit is a Standard-legal Universes Beyond expansion, making Bilbo’s adventure playable in competitive Standard alongside Commander and other formats. The Hobbit Treasure Trove is a must-grab for any collectors interested in the unique LOTR line.
