The Boys may have ended, but two of the actors are sticking with Prime Video for their next TV project.
Chace Crawford, who played Kevin Kohler/The Deep in every season of the critically acclaimed superhero series, and P.J. Byrne, who appeared in six episodes as Adam Bourke, are teaming up for a new satirical black comedy called We Were Once Men, according to Deadline.
The show is being developed by Jennifer Salke, with The Boys and Vought Rising writer Matt Berns on board to write the scripts.
Crawford and Byrne are not only starring in We Were Once Men, but they’re also serving as executive producers with Salke, Rae Bussola, Matt Milam, Charleston Chambers and Alex Dunlap.
While not many details have been revealed yet, Crawford and Byrne’s characters are brothers, and the plot will revolve around the collapse of male identity. The siblings attend a radical event called the Reclaim Retreat to reawaken their sense of purpose in life.
The Boys wasn’t the first time that these two actors have worked together. They previously appeared in the thriller Eloise, which was released in 2017 and centers on a man who needs to obtain a death certificate for his aunt in order to receive his inheritance, so he and his friends sneak into the Eloise Asylum to do just that.
After Eloise, Crawford, who’s best known for his starring role on Gossip Girl, went on to projects such as I Do…Until I Don’t, All About Nina, Charlie Says, Nighthawks and Casual before being cast as The Deep on The Boys.
Byrne followed up Eloise with roles in The 15:17 to Paris, Rampage, Green Book, Bombshell, Big Little Lies and Black Lightning. In 2020, he joined the cast of The Boys during its second season. Byrne’s last appearance came in the final season when an eel (sent by The Deep) attacks and kills Bourke.
Based on Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s comics, The Boys ran for five seasons from 2019 to 2026 and quickly became a fan-favorite among Prime Video subscribers.
Critics have showered The Boys with overwhelming praise during all five seasons, with the series earning an average Rotten Tomatoes score of 93%. It has also earned several nominations and wins at the Emmys, SAG Awards, Critics’ Choice and Saturn Awards, among others.
Even though The Boys and spinoff Gen V are now over, the franchise isn’t ending anytime soon. A new spinoff called Vought Rising is currently in post-production and will debut in 2027, and The Boys: Mexico is in development.
Crawford and Byrne, meanwhile, have moved on from The Boys franchise and will eventually be seen in the Prime Video comedy We Were Once Men, which does not have a release window or premiere date yet.
