Varun Tej’s upcoming action-comedy Korean Kanakaraju has achieved a major pre-release milestone by securing a lucrative non-theatrical deal ahead of its theatrical release. Scheduled to hit cinemas on August 7, the Merlapaka Gandhi directorial has generated encouraging buzz, with the strong business deal further raising expectations for the film.

Blending Rayalaseema folklore with international action and horror, Korean Kanakaraju follows the story of a village man whose life becomes intertwined with a Korean-owned factory in Penugonda. The film combines rural drama, supernatural elements, and comedy, offering a fresh commercial entertainer.

    Strong pre-release business boosts confidence

The makers have successfully closed impressive non-theatrical rights deals even before the film’s release. While the financial details remain undisclosed, the development has strengthened industry confidence in the project. Trade circles believe such strong pre-release business reflects the faith distributors and streaming partners have in the film’s content and commercial potential.

    Varun Tej underwent extensive preparation

Varun Tej has undergone a noticeable transformation to play the titular character, Kanakaraju. Director Merlapaka Gandhi revealed that the actor worked with a language coach to master the Anantapur dialect, picking up the local slang with ease.

Learning Korean dialogues, however, proved more challenging. Gandhi shared that Varun eventually perfected the pronunciation by rehearsing extensively with Korean actors during the shoot.

The film was shot across multiple locations in India, South Korea, and Kazakhstan, including a 15-day action schedule in Kazakhstan. Ritika Nayak stars as the female lead, while popular comedian Satya plays a key supporting role.

Meanwhile, Varun Tej is also recovering from a recent injury sustained while practising volleyball. The actor underwent surgery and recently attended a promotional event for Korean Kanakaraju using a walker, underlining his commitment to promoting the film despite his recovery.
