The long-running gag involving Will Ferrell and Chad Smith’s uncanny resemblance reached all the way to Saturday Night Live, when the doppelgängers faced off during Ferrell’s opening monologue for the Season 51 finale. The Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer initially took the stage to a somewhat befuddled audience reaction, only to be soon confronted by the comedic actor. “What the hell do you think you’re doing?” quizzed Ferrell. “I think I’m hosting the show,” replied Smith.

“You’re not the host—I am! You’re Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers,” snapped Ferrell. When the audience cheered, Ferrell responded: “No! Shut up! Shut up! Everyone, shut up! What the hell is wrong with you? He pushed me down backstage. And I fell—hard. Lorne had to give me mouth-to-mouth.”

Eventually, the episode’s musical guest, Paul McCartney (who Smith later backed on drums), also got in on the fun.
