When you are crafting the sonic landscape for one of Indian cinema’s most ambitious mythological projects, pleasing everyone right out of the gate is practically impossible. As tracks like Ravana Tandav and Mangal Rang sparked passionate debates across the internet, Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman found himself right in the thick of online scrutiny. Yet, the legendary musician remains entirely unbothered by the initial social media noise, knowing all too well how quickly public sentiment tends to shift.
Speaking candidly about the early trolling and mixed listener reactions, Rahman revealed that the intense creative process leaves little room to obsess over online feedback loops. “We do so much work, filtration, ideation, and iteration that there’s no energy left to look at feedback! We just put it out because it’s been tried and tested so much. My son keeps telling me, ‘This is what they said yesterday, now they’re apologising…’ I say fine, I’ve done my work sincerely and hope people celebrate it,” he shared.
Reflecting on his incredible three-decade journey in the industry, the composer admitted that audiences often romanticise his early work, expecting him to constantly recreate past milestones. However, stagnation is never part of his artistic philosophy. Stepping into Nitesh Tiwari’s epic world starring Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi brought a fresh sense of cultural honour, especially with songs rendered across five different languages.

Fans are also thrilled about Rahman breaking his famous solo rule to team up with German composer Hans Zimmer for this cinematic spectacle. Calling the collaboration a wonderful blessing that will capture global curiosity, the maestro continues to let his music speak for itself. As the first part of the grand saga prepares to hit the big screen this November, the legendary artist is simply focused on sharing his devotion through sound, leaving the temporary chatter far behind.
