Charlize Theron‘s supernatural franchise reboot is now a Netflix streaming sensation internationally, and it comes at the perfect time for multiple reasons. Theron has starred in many major movies throughout her career, including projects like Mad Max: Fury Road, many Fast & Furious movies, Atomic Blonde, and more. The actress played a key role in one of 2026’s biggest movies, Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, which has become the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time. Theron played Calypso in the fantasy epic. When it comes to streaming, the actress has built a successful relationship with Netflix over the years, starring in different movies.
Theron’s contribution to the growing list of Netflix Original movies includes the 2020 superhero movie The Old Guard and its sequel, The Old Guard 2, as well as the 2026 survival thriller Apex, in which Theron stars alongside Taron Egerton. Now, the star is seeing an animated movie that served as the reboot of an 88-year-old supernatural franchise become a Netflix streaming sensation internationally, years after it was originally released in theaters to overwhelming success. That would be 2019’s animated The Addams Family, which has started to trend on Netflix’s global charts at the right time for the genre and franchise.
Theron’s Addams Family Is Dancing Its Way Up Netflix’s Global Charts

The Addams Family was a box office hit. Based on a reported budget of $24 million, the animated movie needed to finish between $48 million and $60 million to break even. With a theatrical total of $204.4 million (counting its 2020 re-release), The Addams Family was a major hit. The Star-Studded Reboot Divided Critics & Audiences
The Addams Family became a box office hit with a star-studded cast, featuring Theron as Morticia Addams and actors like Oscar Isaac, Chloë Grace Moretz, Finn Wolfhard, Mikey Madison, Catherine O’Hara, Martin Short, and many more. However, it divided critics and viewers all the same. On Rotten Tomatoes, The Addams Family sits at a low 49% critics’ score, while holding a decent 70% audience score.
