    Gel Break Up, Citing Guitarist Anthony Webster’s Alleged Misconduct

    New Jersey hardcore band Gel are breaking apart. Following guitarist Anthony Webster’s absence at a number of reveals the previous few months, the remaining members of Gel have posted a statement on social media saying they’re “now not a band.” Gel go on to quote quite a few “heinous” actions that Webster allegedly took which have harmed the band and that they discovered reprehensible. When reached by Pitchfork, a consultant for Gel had no additional remark to share.

    As said of their submit, Gel will now not be acting at any of their beforehand scheduled concert events. That features upcoming excursions opening for Spiritbox, Volbeat, and Anxious, in addition to their units at each weekends of Coachella subsequent month.

    Again in 2018, members of the powerviolence band Sick Shit—guitarist Matthew Bobko, drummer Zach Miller, and guitarist Anthony Webster—shaped Gel with vocalist Sami Kaiser as a brand new side-project for his or her slower, extra hardcore punk materials. They launched a demo tape and self-titled EP in 2018 earlier than bringing onboard guitarist Madison Nave. Gel went on to launch two extra EPs, 2021’s Violent Closure and 2024’s Persona, and one full-length album, 2023’s Only Constant.
