Jailer 2 becomes the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2026
The latest figures put Jailer 2 at the top of the Tamil box office charts for 2026. Its worldwide collection has made it the highest-grossing Tamil film of the year so far, while placing it fifth among Indian films released in 2026.
The film’s performance also highlights the continuing draw of Rajinikanth in the theatrical space, particularly when he reunites with a filmmaker with whom he has previously delivered a commercial success. The sequel follows the 2023 blockbuster Jailer, which introduced audiences to the formidable Tiger Muthuvel Pandian.
The fourth-day collection adds to the film’s strong opening phase, with overseas markets accounting for a significant share of its worldwide earnings. Its next box office milestones will depend on how well it sustains audience interest through the coming weekdays and its first weekend after release.
Rajinikanth returns as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian
In Jailer 2, Rajinikanth reprises his role as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, the former jailer whose quiet exterior conceals a ruthless side. The sequel expands the world established in the first film, with Tiger taking on a larger idol-smuggling syndicate connected to the gang led by Varman, played by Vinayakan, in the 2023 instalment.

Nelson returns to direct the sequel, continuing his collaboration with Rajinikanth after the success of their first outing. The filmmaker’s blend of dark humour, stylised action and larger-than-life characters remains central to the franchise.
With its worldwide earnings now beyond Rs 400 crore, Jailer 2 has established itself as a major box office contender this year. The coming days will determine how far the film can extend its run and whether it can climb further up the list of India’s highest-grossing releases of 2026.
