Vijay’s Jana Nayagan has finally locked its OTT premiere. The H Vinoth directorial will begin streaming on ZEE5 on August 21, nearly a month after its theatrical release. The platform confirmed the streaming date on social media, bringing the actor’s final film to audiences who either missed its theatrical run or are keen to revisit his last performance on screen.
Jana Nayagan had a particularly eventful journey to theatres. Originally surrounded by considerable anticipation as Vijay’s final acting project before his political transition, the film was subjected to multiple delays, including a prolonged certification process. It eventually opened in cinemas on July 23.
Written and directed by H Vinoth, the film features Vijay in the lead alongside Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Priyamani and Nizhalgal Ravi, among others. Anirudh Ravichander has composed the music, with lyrics by Vivek. The film was produced by Venkat K Narayana under the KVN Productions banner.
Vijay’s final film continues its box office run
Jana Nayagan has also managed a substantial theatrical run despite the long wait surrounding its release. According to Sacnilk figures cited in recent reports, the film had grossed Rs 227.14 crore in India and Rs 320.34 crore worldwide. More recent tracking figures have put the worldwide gross at over Rs 322 crore, suggesting that the film has continued to hold its ground at the box office even as its OTT debut approaches.
The film’s significance, however, extends beyond its commercial performance. Jana Nayagan represents the closing chapter of Vijay’s career as a full-time actor. Following his entry into electoral politics and the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, Vijay moved into public office as the state’s Chief Minister, making his final screen appearance an especially consequential one for his fan base.
The political context has inevitably influenced the way Jana Nayagan has been discussed. The film itself deals with themes of power, leadership and the responsibilities of those who wield influence, adding another layer to its reception given Vijay’s transition from cinema to politics.
For ZEE5, the arrival of Jana Nayagan adds another major Tamil title to its streaming slate. For Vijay’s fans, it marks an opportunity to experience his swansong beyond the theatrical environment. With its OTT release now confirmed, the film’s journey will enter a new phase as it reaches audiences across the streaming platform.
