The team behind the upcoming period drama Batwara 1947 has officially released a series of character posters, providing the first detailed look at the ensemble cast. This follows the recent release of a motion poster that introduced the film’s new title and confirmed its theatrical release date. Produced by Aamir Khan and Aparna Purohit under the banner of Aamir Khan Productions, the movie is set to arrive in cinemas on August 14.
Directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi, Batwara 1947 explores the emotional landscape of individuals going through the 1947 Partition of India. The project has grabbed attention for reuniting Rajkumar Santoshi and Sunny Deol, who previously collaborated on acclaimed films like Ghayal, Damini and Ghatak. This release marks their professional reunion after almost three decades.
The character posters showcase the film’s diverse cast, including Sunny Deol, Shabana Azmi, Preity Zinta, Karan Deol, Ali Fazal, and Abhimanyu Singh. Each poster presents the actors in distinct, period-appropriate avatars, reflecting the strength and resilience of those who lived through the era. The visuals aim to capture the gravity and human struggle that define the film’s narrative.
Regarding the theme of the film and the message behind these visuals, the makers added this caption along with the post, “In a world torn apart, their story was a testament to courage. Meet the people who lived through it all Batwara 1947, in theatres from 14th August.”
The film’s technical and creative team is equally notable. The musical score has been composed by A. R. Rahman, with lyrics penned by veteran writer Javed Akhtar. The film, which was previously known by the title Lahore 1947, has undergone a rebranding to Batwara 1947. With the character posters now released, excitement for this historical drama continues to build ahead of its nationwide release this August, coinciding with Partition Day.
