Menon is best known for films such as Airlift, Chef, and Pippa, which have seen him tackle stories across different genres and settings. His latest project takes that versatility a step further, with the filmmaker making his Tamil debut while also attempting psychological horror for the first time.
The film is being produced by Panorama Studios in association with Locomotive Global. The makers have kept details of the plot under wraps, but the project is described as an all-women psychological horror drama, placing its female characters at the heart of the narrative.
For Menon, the film represents several firsts and continues his journey of moving between genres rather than being defined by a particular style of filmmaking.
“Someone once quite aptly called me ‘genre agnostic,’ and this film is another exploration in that journey,” Menon shared, reflecting on his evolving creative path. “This is a story that is a first for me in many ways — my first film in Tamil, my first psychological horror, and my first story centred entirely around women. Adding to that is the privilege of working with Trisha Krishnan, Radhika ma’am, Aparna Balamurali, the wonderful cast and a fantastic crew. It makes this journey all the more exciting. Panorama Studios and Kumar Mangat ji have been incredibly supportive of my creative process, while Vikas and Sunder from Locomotive Global share the same commitment to telling the story the way it should be told, without a compromise. I couldn’t have asked for a better set of people to take this new journey with.”
Trisha Krishnan, Radhika Sarathkumar And Aparna Balamurali Come Together
The film’s central trio brings together three performers with distinctive careers and screen personas. Trisha has been one of the leading names in Tamil cinema for more than two decades, while Radhika Sarathkumar brings extensive experience across Tamil film and television. Aparna Balamurali, meanwhile, has established herself as one of the notable performers of her generation across Malayalam and Tamil cinema and is a National Award winner.
Their collaboration is particularly significant given the film’s all-women premise. The narrative is expected to rely heavily on the dynamics between its central characters, giving the three actors an opportunity to explore a darker and more psychologically demanding story.
Menon is also taking a different approach to horror with the project. Rather than building the film around conventional jump scares, the filmmaker aims to create an unsettling atmosphere in which emotion and character become central to the horror. The psychological dimension of the story is expected to drive much of the tension, making it a departure from a more traditional horror format.
Panorama Studios Makes Its Tamil Cinema Foray
The film marks another significant milestone for Panorama Studios, which is making its first Tamil venture as part of its expanding footprint across South Indian cinema. The production is being jointly backed by Kumar Mangat Pathak, Abhishek Pathak, Sundar Aaron, Vikas Sharma and Amit Dalmia.
For Menon, meanwhile, the project brings together multiple new experiences. It is his first Tamil film, his first psychological horror and his first story centred entirely on women. With principal photography now underway in London, the filmmaker is entering this new phase with a cast led by three acclaimed actors.
Details about the film’s title, storyline and release date are yet to be revealed. However, Menon’s move into Tamil cinema with an all-women psychological horror drama marks a striking departure from his previous work and sets up an intriguing new collaboration between the filmmaker and his three leading actors.
