A couple of iconic Bollywood films are all set for their theatrical re-release this month. The trend of re-releasing old films gained momentum after the pandemic, with a lot of films performing well the second time. Now, in light of Valentine’s month, more films are set to be released again in theatres.
These include Shah Rukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s Devdas, Salman Khan’s Tere Naam and Mani Ratnam’s Yuva starring Ajay Devgn, Vivek Oberoi, Abhishek Bachchan, Rani Mukerji, Esha Deol and more.

These films aim to celebrate the “many shades of love.” Devdas will be released on February 6, followed by Yuva on February 20 and Tere Naam on February 27.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 2002 film Devdas is based on Sarat Chandra’s novel of the same name. It stars Shah Rukh Khan as Devdas, a wealthy law graduate who returns from London and finds himself in love with his next-door neighbour and childhood friend, Paro (Aishwarya). However, because of the class difference between them, his family doesn’t consent to their marriage. Devdas becomes heartbroken and becomes an alcoholic because of the pain of separation from his childhood sweetheart. Paro’s mother marries her into a family which is richer than Devdas’ family. Devdas, on the other hand, finds succour in the arms of a courtesan, Chandramukhi (Madhuri Dixit).

Salman Khan’s role in Tere Naam back in 2003 won several hearts as Bollywood’s Bhaijaan portrayed a character he had never played before. He was seen as an obsessed lover, losing his sanity because of love. Directed by Satish Kaushik, the film received a lot of love from Salman fans at that time. Not just that, Salman’s haircut in the film had also become a huge trend among his fans.

Yuvaa, on the other hand, is a 2004 political drama directed by Mani Ratnam that intertwines the lives of three young men from very different backgrounds. The film stars Ajay Devgn as Michael, an idealistic student leader, Vivek Oberoi as Arjun, a carefree youth initially focused on personal gain, and Abhishek Bachchan as Lallan, a hardened goon working for a corrupt politician. Their intersecting stories explore youth engagement in politics, moral dilemmas and personal transformation as they confront violence, ambition and social change.
