    The demise of legendary filmmaker Bharathiraja has left the South Indian film industry in mourning. Several stalwarts from the Telugu film fraternity took to social media to pay heartfelt tributes to the iconic Tamil filmmaker, celebrating his extraordinary contribution to Indian cinema.

    A unique imprint on Indian cinema

    Megastar Chiranjeevi, who collaborated with Bharathiraja in Aaradhana, recalled the filmmaker’s distinctive aesthetics and his ability to transform simple human emotions into timeless cinematic experiences. “He transformed the fragrance of village soil, the beauty of human relationships, the innocence of love, and the emotions of ordinary people into timeless cinematic poetry. His films touched millions of hearts and inspired generations of filmmakers,” the Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu actor wrote.

    Actor-politician Pawan Kalyan highlighted Bharathiraja’s influence across languages and generations. “With his extraordinary films, he not only won the hearts of Tamil cinema audiences but also those of Telugu, Hindi, and Kannada viewers. Having received six National Awards, he left his unique imprint on the Indian film landscape,” wrote the OG and Hari Hara Veera Mallu actor, while also mentioning his brother Chiranjeevi’s Aaradhana and the National Award-winning Seethakoka Chiluka.

    Baahubali and RRR filmmaker SS Rajamouli described Bharathiraja as a “true pioneer who revolutionised cinema with his raw and uncompromising storytelling.” He added, “Those unforgettable rural narratives, that fearless vision, and the authenticity he brought to the screen will live on forever.”

    Actor Allu Arjun, who is currently working on the sci-fi film Raaka, described Bharathiraja as a “true legend whose vision, storytelling, and contribution to Indian cinema will remain timeless.” The Pushpa star further wrote, “His legacy will continue to inspire generations of filmmakers and artists.”

    Strong Tollywood connect

    Bharathiraja shared a deep connection with Telugu cinema. Kotha Jeevithalu (1981) was the Telugu remake of his own Tamil film Puthiya Vaarpugal. His directorial Seethakoka Chiluka (1981) won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Telugu. He also directed Aaradhana (1987), starring Chiranjeevi, and Jamadagni (1988), starring superstar Krishna. Apart from directing Telugu films, Bharathiraja also provided the story for the blockbuster Mangammagari Manavadu, starring Nandamuri Balakrishna, further cementing his lasting association with the Telugu film industry.
