Authenticity wins applause
The English version appears to have paid close attention to the nuances of dialogue delivery. Yash’s performance feels natural, with his delivery flowing smoothly alongside the visuals rather than sounding dubbed or stilted. That authenticity has particularly impressed audiences, given the scale and ambition of the project and Yash’s dual role in the film.
Social media users were quick to praise the trailer, with one viewer writing, “Literally Toxic suits more in English than any other languages.” Others felt that the English version could help the film connect with audiences beyond India.
Can it be a new trend-setter?
Some viewers went a step further, describing the decision to shoot the film in English as a potentially game-changing move for Indian cinema. One movie buff called the trailer a “genius move”, observing that it felt comparable to European films that are shot in English. Another user suggested that with Lionsgate backing the film, strong word-of-mouth could help it make an impact at the North American box office.
There was also praise for the decision to have the original actors dub their own lines for the English version. One viewer hoped the makers would mount a dedicated promotional campaign for the English release and target international audiences rather than limiting the campaign to Indian viewers.
Yash has also expressed his enthusiasm for the English version. Reflecting on the journey, the actor recently said, “When you want to do something in life, nothing should stop you.” He also jokingly recalled how different his English was earlier in his career compared to today.
Directed by Geetu Mohandas, Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups is set to release in theatres worldwide on August 26.
