With actor-turned-politician Vijay’s birthday falling on June 22, fans are gearing up for celebrations across Tamil Nadu. Joining the festivities, Vishnu Kamal of Chennai’s Kamala Cinemas has announced a special lineup of Vijay classics that will be screened throughout the day.

Chennai Theatre Plans A Grand Vijay Birthday Celebration

The theatre will host five films featuring the star: Mersal, Kaththi, Jilla, Sachein and Theri. The initiative has already generated tremendous excitement among fans, many of whom have rushed to secure tickets for the screenings.

Sharing the announcement on social media, Vishnu Kamal wrote, “Celebrating the Birthday of our Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Thalapathy Vijay Sir. Thalapathy has inspired millions, and I’m proud to be one of them. As a Thalapathy fanboy, celebrating his birthday on the big screen has always been my own little way of celebrating my hero 5 Shows. 5 Movies. One Grand Celebration.”

The response has been immediate. Bookings opened shortly after the announcement, and several shows have already witnessed overwhelming demand. Reports suggest that screenings of Kaththi and Mersal have filled up rapidly, prompting the theatre management to consider adding more shows in the coming days.

The selected films represent different phases of Vijay’s career. Kaththi remains one of his most celebrated collaborations with director AR Murugadoss, while Mersal showcased the actor in a triple role and emerged as one of the biggest commercial successes of his career. Jilla paired him with Mohanlal, Sachein continues to enjoy cult popularity among younger audiences, and Theri remains one of his most loved action entertainers.

Uncertainty Persists Around Jana Nayagan’s Release

The birthday celebrations arrive at a time when discussions surrounding Vijay’s final film, Jana Nayagan, continue to dominate fan circles.

Directed by H Vinoth and produced by KVN Productions, the project is widely expected to be Vijay’s farewell film before he fully commits himself to public life. However, its release timeline remains the subject of intense speculation.

According to industry reports, the production team is currently working towards obtaining the film’s censorship certificate. If the certification process is completed this week, the makers are reportedly considering a June 26 theatrical release. Should the approval take longer, an alternative release date before July 3 is said to be under consideration.

The uncertainty has also led to reports regarding the film’s distribution arrangements. Industry buzz suggests that distributors who have invested in the project are eager for clarity regarding the release schedule. Some reports claim that Vijay may consider reimbursing distributors if delays linked to censorship issues significantly impact the film’s rollout. However, there has been no official confirmation regarding these claims from either the actor or the production house.

The silence from the makers has only intensified curiosity among fans, many of whom continue to await a formal announcement on the film’s release strategy. Given the enormous expectations surrounding Jana Nayagan, every update related to the project quickly becomes a major talking point online.

For now, though, attention is shifting to June 22, when thousands of Vijay fans are expected to celebrate their idol’s birthday by revisiting some of his most iconic films on the big screen. Whether Jana Nayagan arrives before the month ends or slightly later, the excitement surrounding Vijay’s final cinematic chapter shows no signs of slowing down.
