Prabhas-starrer The Raja Saab was tipped to be one of the most anticipated films of the season. Released amid huge expectations during the recent Sankranti festival, the Maruti directorial turned out to be a major letdown. The horror-comedy neither excited fans nor struck a chord with general audiences, eventually emerging as a box-office disappointment.

The Raja Saab now gets a second chance and may find a new lease of life if it manages to engage audiences on the small screen. According to reports, JioHotstar has bagged the film’s digital streaming rights and is planning to premiere it on February 6, 2026. Interestingly, the horror-comedy will be available in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam, but not in Hindi. The film, which released on January 9, 2026, completed its mandatory four-week theatrical window by February 6. Several recent films that struggled at the box office have found appreciation online, and this development has offered some respite to the makers. Moreover, reports suggest that the OTT version will feature a few corrections, with certain scenes from the theatrical cut, particularly those facing backlash for poor VFX, being removed. It remains to be seen whether the film’s underperformance at the box office will impact its digital reception.

    Prabhas’ tryst with the genre

The Raja Saab generated significant curiosity as it marked Prabhas’s first foray into the horror-comedy genre. Moving away from larger-than-life roles, the superstar experimented with a street-smart character laced with wit and humour. While the film opened to strong numbers on its first day, collections fizzled out soon after. Although it grossed over Rs 200 crore worldwide initially, theatrical occupancy remained critically low across the Telugu and Hindi markets.
